Exion Vs. Morpheus8 ... What's Better & Which is Right for You?

by Amanda Hlatky |

Exion and Morpheus8 are two of the most popular anti-aging medspa services available right now.

With so many anti-aging devices and treatments on the market today, each promising the ‘best’ results, it can feel impossible to decide which treatment will be best for you!

Today we’re going to break down some of these options, and lay out the differences and results… So, let’s dive in!

First of all, What is Radiofrequency (RF) and what does it do for the skin?

Plainly, RF devices generate an electric current within the skin tissue. The emitted energy then causes the contraction of the collagen in dermis, heat, and a controlled ‘damage’ to that tissue, which results in the start of an inflammatory healing process. This healing process leads to regeneration of collagen and elastin, and a more youthful appearance to the skin!

RF Comes in 2 Forms: Bipolar and Monopolar RF

Bipolar type RF requires two electrodes to contact the skin and the current to flow from one electrode to another. The electric current, for this reason, could go as deep as half the distance between the two electrodes.

Monopolar type RF uses only one electrode placed on the skin and requires a grounding electrode on the other side. Monopolar RF is able to reach much deeper into the skin tissues, resulting in more thorough regeneration of collagen and elastin.

The major difference between the two is the depth of penetration; bipolar RF doesn't get as deep and overall penetrates less tissue when compared to monopolar RF.

WHAT ABOUT MICRONEEDLING?

Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling introduces a micro-injury to the skin, which, similar to RF, also encourages the skin to produce collagen and elastin through the stimulation of the skin’s natural healing response. The skin appears plump and radiant in the days and weeks after microneedling. Over time, and with maintenance microneedling treatments, the skin is encouraged to continue to naturally produce collagen and the skin is improved through biological processes.

Depending on the device used, needles can penetrate anywhere from 0.25mm - 7mm deep beneath the skin surface.

Now that we have a basic understanding of how RF & Microneedling technology works, let’s compare the top devices on the market:

EXION FACE:

✨ Combines Monopolar Radiofrequency + Ultrasound

✨ Delivers RF up to 8mm deep

✨ No needles / non-invasive / no downtime

✨ Improve blood circulation, stimulates fibroblasts, and increases hyaluronic acid production in the face.

✨ Tightens and plumps up the skin

✨ Clinical studies show up to 224% increase in Hyaluronic Acid production.

    EXION FRACTIONAL RF:

✨ Combines Monopolar Radiofrequency + Ultrasound + Microneedlin

✨  Improve blood circulation, stimulate fibroblasts, and increase hyaluronic acid in the face.

✨ Tightens and plumps up the skin, while also targeting deeper lines and wrinkles, scarring, and reducing large pores.

✨  Delivers RF + Ultrasound up to 8mm deep, without full needle insertion. This makes it not only more effective, but considerably less painful and with less downtime when compared to Morpheus 8.

✨  Clinical studies show an improvement in skin laxity by 85% and increase in hyaluronic acid production by 224%.

    MORPHEUS 8 FACE:

✨  Combines Bipolar radiofrequency + Microneedling

✨ Delivers RF up to 7mm below the surface, with full needle insertion

✨ Full needle insertion at this depth makes it excruciatingly painful, and many patients report not being able to finish the treatment

✨ *no increase in hyaluronic acid production

      Exion vs. Morpheus Comparison Recap:

      Exion Vs. Morpheus in Vancouver

Many beauty and medspa professionals consider Morpheus8 to be overall ‘too intense’ for the skin and causing too much skin injury. Risk of complications and adverse side affects is also higher… more isn’t always better when it comes to achieving optimal results with anti-aging treatments! Needle penetration this deep isn’t ideal for the skin, and isn’t as effective. We want the RF delivered that deep into the skin, but not the needles themselves.

This is where Exion Face and Exion Fractional RF are superior to Morpheus8, by utilizing monopolar energy, we get the optimal deep RF penetration, in combination with optimal needle penetration! This leads to better overall results, and significantly less pain!
