Cherry Angioma Removal: What Is the Best Treatment?
Cherry angiomas are one of the most common vascular skin lesions we treat at Glow Dermal Therapy.
Although they're completely benign, many people choose to have them removed because they become more noticeable over time or catch on clothing, jewellery or while shaving.
The good news is that they can often be treated quickly and effectively using BBL HEROic.
What Is a Cherry Angioma?
A cherry angioma is a small collection of tiny blood vessels that forms just beneath the surface of the skin.
They typically appear as:
-
Bright red spots
-
Dark red or purple raised bumps
-
Smooth, well-defined lesions
-
Growths ranging from pinhead size to several millimetres
Cherry angiomas can develop anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on the:
-
Chest
-
Back
-
Abdomen
-
Arms
-
Shoulders
-
Face
They become increasingly common with age and are not contagious or cancerous.
Why Do Cherry Angiomas Develop?
The exact cause isn't fully understood, but they're thought to be associated with:
-
Ageing
-
Genetics
-
Hormonal changes
-
Natural changes within the blood vessels
While they aren't harmful, they do not usually disappear on their own.
How Does BBL HEROic Treat Cherry Angiomas?
BBL HEROic uses carefully selected wavelengths of light to target the blood vessels inside the angioma.
The light energy is absorbed by the blood within the lesion, causing the unwanted vessels to gradually break down while leaving the surrounding skin largely unaffected.
Your body then naturally clears away the treated vessels over the following weeks.
Why the 532 Filter Makes a Difference
One of the reasons we chose Sciton BBL HEROic is its advanced filter technology.
For many superficial cherry angiomas, the 532 filter allows us to precisely target blood vessels close to the skin's surface.
Not every light-based device offers this level of customisation.
Having access to multiple filters allows us to choose the most appropriate wavelength for each lesion, helping us achieve precise, predictable results.
What Happens During Treatment?
Treatment is usually very quick.
After assessing the angioma, your practitioner will select the most appropriate settings before delivering carefully controlled pulses of light to the area.
Most patients describe the sensation as a brief warm snap.
The treatment generally takes only a few minutes, depending on the number of angiomas being treated.
What Happens After Treatment?
Immediately after treatment you may notice:
-
Mild redness
-
Slight swelling
-
Temporary darkening of the angioma
Over the following days and weeks, the treated lesion gradually fades as your body naturally clears the targeted blood vessels.
Depending on the size and depth of the angioma, more than one treatment may occasionally be recommended.
Are Cherry Angiomas Dangerous?
Cherry angiomas are benign and do not become cancerous.
However, if you notice a new skin lesion, rapid changes in size, shape or colour, or a lesion that bleeds without obvious cause, it's important to have it assessed by your GP or dermatologist before seeking cosmetic treatment.
Why We Choose BBL HEROic
Technology matters when treating vascular lesions.
The combination of advanced filters, precise energy delivery and customisable treatment settings allows us to tailor every treatment to the individual lesion rather than using the same approach for every patient.
This precision is one of the reasons BBL HEROic has become one of our favourite technologies for treating vascular concerns.
The Glow Philosophy
At Glow Dermal Therapy, we believe there is rarely one treatment that's right for everyone.
The most natural-looking results come from understanding why your skin is changing, rather than treating the symptoms alone.
That's why every consultation begins with a thorough assessment of your skin, lifestyle and goals. From there, we create a personalised treatment plan that may involve one treatment or a carefully selected combination of treatments designed to work together.
Our philosophy is simple: achieve results that look refreshed, balanced and completely natural, never overdone.
